Terms of use
Effective October 26, 2026
tabula is licensed to you under Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/), together with these terms. Where they differ, these terms add to Apple's; they don't take away any rights the law gives you.
Your tabula is yours
Everything you write and log in tabula belongs to you. We don't claim any rights to it, and we can't see it (see the privacy policy). Because it lives on your devices and in your own iCloud, keeping it safe is in your hands too: tabula makes a weekly backup, and you can make your own at any time.
Not advice
tabula helps you keep track of your days, health, medication, moods, money and more, but it isn't a medical device and doesn't give medical, mental health, financial or legal advice. Medication reminders can be late or missed (for example, if notifications are off or your device is off), so don't rely on them alone. The oracles' readings are suggestions for reflection, not predictions or advice. tabula isn't for anyone in crisis: if you're in danger or thinking about suicide or self-harm, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line (the app shows where to find one).
aurum
- aurum monthly and aurum yearly are optional auto-renewing subscriptions. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- Each renews automatically at the same price unless it's cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- You can manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store account settings at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep aurum until the end of the period you've paid for.
- A free trial, where offered, is one per Apple Account. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, the plan you chose starts and is charged when the trial is over.
- aurum lifetime is a one-time purchase: you pay once and keep everything aurum includes for as long as tabula is offered, with nothing to renew or cancel. It can be restored on your other devices with the same Apple Account.
- As a thank-you, lifetime also brings a first look at each artist deck before it goes on sale and a founding pillar tag on the tabula discord (while there is one). These are thank-yous we intend to keep giving, not part of what's sold.
- What aurum includes can grow and change over time. We won't take away a main part of it from people who already pay without telling you first.
The oracles and decks
- tabula's oracles are part of aurum, with no extra cost per question. They need aurum and a device with Apple Intelligence.
- aurum decks come with aurum. Artist decks are bought one at a time, by anyone, with or without aurum.
- Refunds are handled by Apple.
Beta versions
If you use a beta (through TestFlight), it may have bugs, change, lose things or stop working, so keep a backup of anything you'd miss. In betas, aurum and the shop are free and pretend: nothing is charged, and what you "buy" in a beta doesn't carry over to the App Store version. Beta versions share more anonymous usage information by default, as the privacy policy explains, and you can choose less.
The web version and tabula accounts
- tabula also runs in a web browser at app.tabula.re. To use it, you make a tabula account and sign in with a code we email you or with a passkey.
- A new web account comes with a 14-day free trial of aurum. It ends by itself: we never ask for payment details, and nothing is charged.
- Beta testers get aurum free until the beta ends.
- When the web shop opens, aurum on the web will be a separate purchase made through Stripe, not through Apple. The web shop isn't open yet.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings › tabula account › delete my account. Receipts for past purchases are kept, because we have to keep them for tax and accounting records.
Community widgets and things you share
- You can share pages and blocks as community widget files. Only share what's yours to share, and nothing that would hurt anyone or break the law. You're responsible for what you share.
- Widgets from other people aren't made or checked by us. tabula shows you a preview first and only ever uses its own kinds of blocks, but a widget can contain links and embedded web content from other websites, which is theirs, not ours.
- If we build a widget someone shared into the app, we'll credit them and ask first.
Other services
Some features use other services (Apple Weather, Google Calendar, Zotero, Steam, Open Library, Wikipedia and others listed in the privacy policy). They're run by others, under their own terms, and can change or stop. We can't promise any of them will always be there.
The tabula discord
The tabula discord is a place to talk about tabula, share widgets and get help. It's run on Discord, under Discord's terms, and joining is up to you. Be kind; we may remove anyone who isn't.
Our code and artwork
tabula's app, its source code, its website, its writing and its artwork belong to their makers (tabula; the artwork is by Katherine Lin-Chen), and all rights are reserved. You're welcome to use the app, but you can't copy, resell, republish or rebuild it or its code or art, or take parts of them, without written permission. Your own writing and data stay yours, as above.
Our part
We work hard to make tabula reliable, but it's provided as is, as far as the law allows, and to the extent Apple's license agreement sets out. We aren't responsible for losses that come from relying on the app for things it isn't meant for, such as medical decisions.
Changes
If these terms change, the new version comes with the app, with a new effective date. Using tabula after a change means you accept the new terms.
